The difference between murder and assassination is that people never assume the murdered man deserved it.

Notes[]

Assassin is meant to work alongside Reconnaissance and Surveillance (though if you've picked up Xalia for a Tournament game, you can make good use of Assassins without that support).

From there, you have several options for expansion:

  1. While an Assassin can take two hits, which makes them more durable than most other Metris allies, you will still want to give them some protection. On a gold-to-hits basis, the Bodyguard is a little more efficient than Misdirect (5 interceptions for 3 gold vs 2 hits interceptions for 2 gold), and if you're focusing on the damage output of your Assassins and skulls, then the damage redirection of Misdirect and Frame may not be relevant. There's also a 50% chance that your Bodyguard won't be destroyed when killed. It's also worth noting that attacks which ignore intercept may still be partially "intercepted" by the Bodyguard insofar as this is an ally. If you use Bodyguards, then you should also consider stashing an Apothecary to heal your Bodyguard and get even more mileage out of them.
  2. On the other hand, it will be tempting to add Coordinate to your deck in order to extend the lifespan of your skull-generating cards, and Coordinate will also support Misdirect and Frame—if you have two Misdirects on the board, then playing Coordinate will give two more redirections, effectively giving you 8 interceptions for 7 gold. This is still not as efficient as the Bodyguard, but a plain interceptions-per-gold analysis ignores the benefit to Reconnaissance and Surveillance—you aren't using Coordinate to get a greater benefit from Misdirect, but using Misdirect to get a greater benefit from Coordinate.
  3. Use both! This is also a viable approach, most likely using a Bodyguard or two as an early buffer until you're able to get the rest of your cards situated.

Other cards worth considering are Seduce and Tavern Wench, which both produce skulls when your opponent has no enemies for you to take control of.
