By Penderach's decree, all profits pulled from the soil from the White Hill to the River Wren must pass through my fingers first.

Strategy[]

Fief costs seven and gives two gold; this makes it more efficient than Collect Taxes, and builds incremental advantage much faster (it takes three plays of this card to go positive and it will continue to stack advantage afterwards). Played in support of powerful action cards like Tribute or Miracle, it comes into its own, both offering a midrange purchase point, providing a substantial gold influx to manage heavier prices, and cycling. Notably, Pocchi can buy a mastered Fief first turn if he goes second, which sets him up nicely for future purchases, and he leans toward more expensive decks by nature; he's a natural fit for this card in his heavier, action-heavy decks, particularly with powerful board control effects like Malediction that compensate for the lack of presence Fief offers on the field.

It's worthwhile to note that Fief doesn't directly contribute to board presence; pair it with strong board presence to make up for its focus on resource support, and be cautious of buying it early against strong rush decks, where the loss of tempo can result in an early loss. It also works poorly with a cheap ally rush deck, and will empty your bank swiftly unless you employ Synod to refresh it at an accelerated pace.
