Any coward can hold a spear and stand on the line. It takes a Marshal to make that coward march to his own death through fire and pain with grim determination.

–Marshal Radnor

Marshall is one of two cards that cause additional activations in Vespitole, and trades off risk for consistency. It activates only on turn itself and thus needs shielding to survive (your opponent will absolutely try to kill this card first), but if it survives it doubles the value of any allies on the field. Depending on what's out, that could either be a mild inconvenience or a backbreaking turnaround. It's worth a reminder that Marshall activates the hero as well, producing their given resource in all cases except Ysa.

Marshall loves lots of on-turn allies; the Vespitole producers, Banker, Bishop, and the siege weapon line (Ballista / Catapult / Warship) are all primary examples, and the cheaper the better so that they can be bought en masse and dumped onto the field, with better chances of at least some surviving to next turn. By the same token, Synod can give him enough activation targets to go from problematic to horrifying. He also needs screening, being a linchpin ally with one health, and the Militia line serves well in this, as they both intercept and activate on turn; turning to either the Palisade / Rampart duo or Ballista / Catapult surrenders one of these useful tools.

Marshall is, of course, reliant on allies staying in play until turn start to have an effect, and is itself incredibly fragile. It needs an ally-packed deck to succeed. It's also worth noting that, with her aggressive trait and no innate resource production, Ysa plays the weakest Marshall of any Vespitole hero, and should steer away from this decktype.
