The base of the Soldier line, Militia blocks an attack and throws out one of its own per turn, and serves as a minor annoyance most of the time rather than any real opposition. Its primary use is as the cheapest Food converter Vespitole has, turning it into damage (so long as retaliation doesn't mulch it in response), and the first that attacks as well. For cycling decks with expensive options, the Militia represents a cheap buy that saves a few coins without cycling the bank, as an eventual win-con, and a recyclable body that will be in your deck more often than on the field, given its fragility.

Militia synergizes with other things primarily on account of being a cheap body; ally count cards like Harvest or Tithe will gladly fill up their field with him, and he intercepts attacks to give those cards time to be bought without eating up the gold you'd need. He's also one of the cheapest bank options the Vespitole have, and the cheapest that does damage; he's a fine filler choice for some early board control in setup-heavy cycling decks.

Being a roadbump more than a enemy, it's important to realize that Militia is not a protective card. It's a cheap food converter and a spare health you replay a lot, but using it to attempt protecting other allies on the field is an exercise in futility, even worse than Serf, arguably; Serf never causes retaliations or hurts you if Seduced or stolen.
