Goat Outriders serve as Daramek's only intercept, and perhaps the most hated source of it in the whole game, thanks to their 50% dodge mechanic. It can either fall flat on its face or kill the opposing player on its own, so it's never a thing to trifle with, but it comes down at an impressive cost for Daramek and has comparatively little health, set against its competitors in other factions. That said, if you want protection in Daramek, this is one of your two options along with Shepherd, and it's probably the easier one to splash.

Goat Outriders, due to their high cost and intercept shenanigans, benefit from tricks that deploy them in volume: Ceremonial Dance and Fertility Offering can get droves of them out into play, and each Goat Outrider in play increases the damage enemies need to deal to kill any of them by one (a daunting task in the face of the dodge property). Their staunch defense also benefits Herd decks more than slaves: Herds want to stay in play to proc their on-turn effects, while Slaves are more suited to cycling back into the deck to take advantage of the Overseer.

Outriders suffer mainly from being a total defense card with a high cost; the rest of your deck needs a suitable engine to both pay for its entry cost and take advantage of the safety it offers. It fits poorly in aggressive decks, as a result.
